Wild Nezpique Paddle May 2012 Trip Report
We dropped the boats off and all passengers at a park just south of I-10 at the first Jennings exit, while the drivers took the vehicles to the Mermentau boat dock. I have yet to see more than 2 or 3 cars at the park at any one time. Paddling down the Nezpique, you are not likely to run into more than one or two boats but once you hit the Mermentau, that changes a little bit. It is cypress and hardwoods the length of the Nezpique and it is as if you are almost the first explorers down this stretch, with ...
Bayou Grand Gueule Paddle May 2012 Trip Report
The water was low making it hard to launch at our usual spot so we launched the boats about 30 feet south of where we usually launch down a newly made trail and a low bank. We had a bit of a slow start. A tandem kayak was stuck in a round-about so we had to reassign boats and folks. We soon headed north in Bayou Amie before turning off at Bayou Grand Guele. We paddled amongst cypress , song birds and wading birds while exploring other waterways and taking photos. Some paddlers were taken by the large display of cypress knees ...

Kayaking 101 May 17 – Trip Report
Such a fun time. Majority of the class hadn't kayaked before but were so ready for the challenge. The weather was perfect with a slight breeze. Everyone picked up the technique quickly and we enjoyed a paddle thru the beautiful Lake Martin Cypress trees. There are so many birds right now a true treat. Congrats again to the new retirees! Four of the eight of us had recently retired one individual was celebrating her first day of retirement! The rest of us are "aspiring to retire". It was an honor to be a part of the beginning of a new chapter ...
Stand Up Paddleboarding 101 May 11, 2012 Trip Report
Last Friday's class was supposed to be cancelled - due to impending bad weather. But at the last minute, one of the participants called and convinced me to ignore the threatening weather and go ahead and teach the class, since she had signed up for 3 spots. Good plan! It didn't rain a single drop the whole time we were out there! The class consisted of a mother, her 14-year-old daughter, and the daughter's best friend. It was so, so wonderful to have adults and kids paddling together, being active and having a blast. The first portion of any SUP ...

Why Fishing from a Kayak Beats Fishing from a Boat
Kayaks are Stealthy: No matter how you slice it, a kayak is quieter and less noticeable to fish than any boat - even poling skiffs! Not having a trolling motor makes you kayak quieter. Even the pressure of the bow of your boat creating a small ripple will give fish in shallow water a serious case of lockjaw. A kayak can slip into any size pond and the fish won't even know you're there! To make your kayak even more stealthy, adhere stealth rubber to every spot on your boat that you lay paddles, Plano boxes and rods. Kayaks offer better ...
Kayaking 101 May 3, 2012 Trip Report
Kayaking 101 has proven again to be more than an introduction to kayaking technique. I had the honored opportunity to introduce four great new friends to there own backyard in a whole new way. We had a Grandmother and teen, the Bayou Ladies, who went from wanting there boats tied together to paddling like pros. Then our sweet native to the Lake Martin area, Ashley, who had never been on the lake before and enjoyed the new beautiful perspective expressing how different it looked from the water. The guys bonded quickly discussing fishing out of a kayak. I can't wait ...
Pointe Aux Chenes Kayak Fishing Trip April 2012
This trip was sold out weeks before the initial date, the day before the trip there was a last minute cancelation that left us with five anglers. John Williams of Houma and I led this “semi guided” trip to Pointe Aux Chenes. Dennis, Billy, Jeremiah and I met at Pack and Paddle around 4:30 am. This small group followed me to Pointe Aux Chenes where we met Lee, Amanda, and our other trip leader John Williams. John had a route in mind that he felt would be best for the 15mph sustained South East winds that we encountered most of ...
