Great reasons to buy a Hobie kayak!

Why are Hobie kayaks so expensive

While it’s true that Hobie kayaks are not cheap, it’s important to keep in mind that Hobie makes models starting around $1600 which is very competitive with other brands in the market.  And when you compare features on their flagship models like the Outback and Pro Angler, Hobie models are super competitive – and they offer some things no other kayak offers:
1). The most proven and longest lived drive system on the market.  The Mirage Drive came out in 1997 and Hobie has made improvements to that drive every year since.  Some changes are not visible like the move to roller bearings (which is why Hobie drives are so quiet and smooth) and some are more visible like the addition of the reverse feature and the 360 drive.  And the new Kick up fins are available ONLY on Hobie kayaks.

2). There is not a drive on the market that works as well in shallow water.  Simply split your feet and the drive is up against the hull drawing no additional depth.

3). There is not a quieter drive on the market.  The Hobie Mirage drive is super stealthy.

4). The ergonomics of “push, push” instead of the bicycle motion is more comfortable to most people.

5). Hobie keeps parts available even for older drives – so you can be sure that as your drive ages, you’ll be able to repair it and find parts.

6). Hobie has the best network of dealers that support the product.

    Are Hobie kayaks worth it

Absolutely they are!  Hobie kayaks are a pleasure to use:  Quiet, smooth and super functional.  The seats are among the most comfortable on the market and the cockpits of each level of Hobie kayak are well thought out.  And no other brand beats Hobie for resale value should you ever trade up or sell your boat in the future.

    Where are Hobie Kayaks Made?

Hobie’s headquarters are in Oceanside California.  This is where the vast majority of kayak hulls are built.  A Hobie kayak uses many different parts that are sourced from a variety of vendors here in the states and across the globe.

    How to clean Hobie kayak

Always hose off your boat after every use – especially in salt water. Your Local Hobie dealer sells a great cleaner and UV protectant.  There are many videos on youtube that will describe cleaning your drive.  This Hobie quick start video for the outback gives you some tips on cleaning and maintenance:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCGq3ZBaJgE&t=14s

    Where to buy Hobie kayaks

The best place to buy your Hobie kayak is at your local dealer.  They can provide you with the boat and also service after the sale.  Your dealer is a treasure trove of information on local kayak and kayak fishing and can be your resource for getting involved with the sport.  Of course we’d love for you to buy your next Hobie from our dealership – Pack & Paddle in Lafayette, LA.  Check out boats online at this link:  https://shop.packpaddle.com/pedal-kayaks/

How to use a Hobie kayak cart

There are some tips that are great to learn about using a Hobie kayak cart.  This video, while a little dated still has a ton of great information on how to use a hobie kayak cart:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Dcyz7dDp8
