We had an awfully early start this morning, met at Pack and Paddle for 5:30AM. That put us on the water just as the sun was rising. Everyone, surprisingly at this hour, was chatty with smiling faces and plenty of pep for the morning paddle.
The stillness of our surroundings was only broken by the splash of fish, the ever moving wading birds leaving their roost for a day foraging, the occasional alligator spotted swimming in the open waters, the song birds tweeting their musical songs and the frogs. The frogs with their cricket like calls for some and deep snores and snorts for others.
It’s magical in this lake at daybreak, before the rest of the world wakes. You are where another world, the natural world, rules. No skyscrapers, no trains, no sirens, no TV, no….none of the other sounds that we normally hear on a daily basis. This is where you can feel what life is all about. It was a real nice morning for our group, we had a nice paddle, saw lots of wildlife and then had a nice brunch.
It’s hard to put the feeling you get on a paddle like this into words, it requires experiencing it. So this is a little push, from me to you, to get outdoors more and if you really want to enjoy what nature has to offer, get out there at daybreak like these folks did. I’m really glad we had a full trip, I wasn’t too sure that would happen and this group was awesome, I really had lots of fun with them.
As for food? We had a plethora of fruit, goodies from Great Harvest, as well as fruit juice, boiled eggs and local goat cheese for a fine bunch of folks!
