The water in Bayou Amie was a little low so it was not as easy as it can be along the bank. Once everyone got in the water we headed north along the levee until we reached Mr. Roy Blanchard’s house. Roy is a local fishermen, movie scout, swamp tour guide by special appointment and just a wonderful guy to hang out with.
Bayou Grand Gueule is right across Bayou Amie from his house. There are coves with magnificent cypress along this bayou, a great place for photography and to just hang out to get that feeling that’s it’s just you and nature. Once you exit the bayou into Lake Dauterive, there are more cypress all along the east side of the lake.
The cypress knees along this bank are gnarly and highly photograph-able. We spent a little time in these cypress heading towards Lake Fausse Point before heading back up Bayou Amie and making it back to the parking area for supper. It was a great paddle and we had fun.
