We dropped the boats off and all passengers at a park just south of I-10 at the first Jennings exit, while the drivers took the vehicles to the Mermentau boat dock. I have yet to see more than 2 or 3 cars at the park at any one time. Paddling down the Nezpique, you are not likely to run into more than one or two boats but once you hit the Mermentau, that changes a little bit.
It is cypress and hardwoods the length of the Nezpique and it is as if you are almost the first explorers down this stretch, with very few human structures such as the occasional duck blind. This is one of the quietest and most beautiful bayous in Louisiana. We stopped in a shady spot for lunch just about a mile before hitting the Mermentau.
Everyone had a great time, enjoying this scenic waterway. We had a little bit of a northeast wind making for a little easier paddle. A south wind makes this trip a bit more difficult. The total mileage for this trip is about 7 miles.
