There was a shop discussion amongst the Pack & Paddle employees of possible confusion about paddling 2 o’clock bayou at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, fortunately our customers didn’t get confused at all. We left the shop just after 3pm and arrived at the dock around 4pm. Everything ran smoothly and we got in the water shortly after unloading boats and a short paddle instruction.
I made a special request from Hub City Diner (they cater the trips) for watermelon which we had about an hour and half into the trip. Cold watermelon on a hot day while paddling is a wonderful treat, it feels like your body hydrates immediately. This is a great summer paddle but don’t do it during the hottest part of the day.
There are enough trees along the bank to cast nice shadows in the narrow waterway and there are some stands of cypress in the bayou that you can take a break under. This waterway brings you far enough away from civilization to make you think you are deep in the Atchafalaya Basin. It is a quiet, relaxing paddle that melts away your worries.
We had a great paddle and lots of super nice people.
