Last Friday’s class was supposed to be cancelled – due to impending bad weather. But at the last minute, one of the participants called and convinced me to ignore the threatening weather and go ahead and teach the class, since she had signed up for 3 spots.
Good plan! It didn’t rain a single drop the whole time we were out there!
The class consisted of a mother, her 14-year-old daughter, and the daughter’s best friend. It was so, so wonderful to have adults and kids paddling together, being active and having a blast.
The first portion of any SUP class is devoted to getting comfortable on the paddle board – finding your balance and learning to steer. This was a bit challenging for some, and resulted a few spills – but that just made it all the more exciting.
We paddled around Sugar Mill Pond for a bit, learning how to steer and make turns. Then the fun really started – we had a race, practiced some yoga poses, had a contest for the longest plank, did some light SUP exercising and goofed off.
The girls were enjoying themselves so much – they decided to make it even more of a team effort and both climbed onto one board and paddled around the Pond.
Even with the strong, challenging gusts of wind, everyone was still able to confidently paddle around the Pond and learn the basics of stand up paddleboarding. Great job!
I had such a fun time teaching y’all!
