Two O’Clock Bayou is an out and back paddle route will take you into the northern reaches of the Atchafalaya Basin. This easy paddle is perfect for beginners or families looking to see lots of birds and beautiful cypress without exposure to places with tougher conditions. The route goes south from the boat launch along the bayou. When you enter Cowan Bay (where the route widens) you can explore either direction. If you go left, you will head towards Close Lake. Water Hyacinth generally will stop your progress at some point when you are headed towards Close Lake.

    Conditions to consider:
This section is great in almost any weather conditions. It’s closed in nature is great for paddlers of any level. High water will provide the ability to proceed further than you can when the water is low in the basin.

    Directions:
From Krotz Springs head west on 190 approximately 3 miles.
Just before the exit for Hwy 71N, move to the left turn lane. Exit for Hwy 71N.
Head south on this road and at the T, take your first left – this will bring you under Hwy 190.
Go a short distance and take a right at the T onto a gravel road named “Old 190.”
Go 1 mile and take a right, just before you reach the 2nd bridge.
The launch is on your left, next to the bridge.

From Opelousas head east on 190 approximately 16 miles.
Exit to the right for Hwy 71N, but do not pass under Hwy 190.
Almost immediately take your first left onto a gravel road named “Old 190.”
Go 1 mile and take a right, just before you reach the 2nd bridge.
The launch is on your left, next to the bridge.
