In an age of cynicism over just about every issue imaginable – it’s so good to see people do things that are good because they believe in something passionately. Patagonia – the clothing company that many of you have heard of for years, dedicates 1% of their total sales to environmental causes. Considering their sales are well above 500 million dollars, this adds up to quite a bit of support for these organizations that are so in need of help. What I really like about Patagonia though is that they support grass roots environmental organizations rather than writing one big check to a major and taking the tax write off. Over the last few years, Patagonia has supported the Atchafalaya basinkeeper with several grants. I wanted to show all of you the check and letter that we received this past week to donate to the Basinkeeper.
First off – THANK YOU to Patagonia for this support. Secondly, I want you to know that you can be a part of a very important fundraiser for this great cause. On Saturday, April 14th we’ll host a “Basinkeeper Paddle Trip”. For this trip, 100% of your trip fee ($49) will go the the Basinkeeper program. You will enjoy a day paddling through the cypress of Lake Fausse Point State WITH Dean Wilson – your Atchafalaya Basinkeeper. You’ll learn first hand some of the challenges that they confront every day in protecting this vital resource. Afterwards, there will be a fish fry for everyone on the trip. Along with the trip, you’ll become a member of the Atchafalaya Basinkeeper program for 1 year. Click here to view more trip details.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy yourself, learn more about the basin and support a great organization. We hope you’ll sign up soon!
