Kisatchie Ranger District Wilderness Area
The Red Dirt (aka Kisatchie Ranger District) is the highest and hilliest section of Kisatchie. You’ll find Longleaf pines on soaring ridges. This is also one of the few areas in the state to find rock outcroppings. Red Dirt is home to the Backbone Trail and the Caroline Dormon Trail.
Wild Azalea Trail
The longest hiking trail in Louisiana at just over 26 miles, this trail traverses the hills of Kisatchie from Woodworth to Lake Valentine. The trail crosses numerous streams, pine forest, lowland hardwood forests and more!
Saline Bayou Trail
Saline Bayou is a beautiful winding lowland bayou. This is a wonderful dayhike along a waterway that can truly be called magical in beauty.
Mount Driskill
The highest point in Louisiana! Every outdoor enthusiast from Louisiana should take the time to climb our high point. The hike is short, but it’s worth it just to say you’ve done it!
Clark Creek Natural Area
This area is often referred to as Pond or Tunica Hills. It is distinguished by its rugged terrain and waterfalls along Clark Creek. Spring and fall are the best times to visit. This is a DAY USE AREA Only. It is located about 20 miles north of St. Francisville. Maps available at Pack & Paddle.
Fausse Point State Park
Located on the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin Spillway, this park offers a marked canoe trail with primitive campsites, several miles of hiking trails, waterfront cabins, campsites, boat launch, pavilions, conference center and a playground. There are miles of waterways for canoeing and kayaking. Located south of St. Martinville on the west guideline levee. Rental canoes are available at the Park Store. 337-229-4764.
